The MICF Spin-a-thon Celebration Bruch, a newly added event to the Foundation’s calendar this year, saw a great group of riders, donors, sponsors and charity partners come out to celebrate this year’s Spin-a-thon at the Marriot Harbor Beach Resort & Spa on June 10. Sponsored by GeoBlue and hosted by Marriot Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, the event celebrated the efforts of donors and riders who raised $45,000 through the Spin-a-thon this year and highlighted the MICF Immersion Summer Camps planned for Dillard High School and Stranahan High School for 2018, and offered charity partners CDTC, Flipany, LifeNet4Families and American Lung Association the chance to share information about their initiatives and missions.
Sabrina Farmer, MICF Chair expressed sincere thanks to the charities for their participation in Spin-a-thon, but more importantly, she noted, for their work in the community to help children and families, to fight homelessness, and to support families facing illness. Farmer said, “MICF has moved to a model where we are more than simply fundraising and making financial donations, or volunteering with charity partners; we are hands-on with youth initiatives, particularly through our summer camps. We remain proud to partner with and support organizations like CDTC, Flipany, LifeNet4Families and American Lung Association as we look forward to building on the summer camp concept.”
Following brief presentations by each charity to the group of more than 50 attendees, it was discovered that American Lung Association was just $1200 shy of a fundraising goal that would earn them a matching donation of $12,500. Several attendees led by former MICF Board Member Lisa Morley and current MICF Board members Will Spencer and Patience Cohn quickly volunteered donations, inspiring a wave of attendees also contributing to help surpass the shortfall. Debra Stoltz representing American Lung Association at the Brunch sincerely expressed her surprise at the generosity and caring spirit of MICF and its supporters along with her gratitude on behalf of ALA for the impromptu fundraiser.
MICF sincerely thanks GeoBlue for their sponsorship and support of the Brunch and 9th Annual Spin-a-thon, along with the Marriot Harbor Beach Resort & Spa for hosting the event. A special acknowledgement and thanks are extended to MICF Board member Will Spencer for his leadership support and contribution to the new MICF Celebration Brunch.
