Marine Industry Cares Foundation Annual Youth Creative Arts Contest Now Accepting Entries – Chance for Middle School Youth to Win Scholarships to Summer Camp Marine Industry Cares Foundation (MICF) announced as of March 1, 2017 they are accepting entries from Broward County youth, ages 7-14, for its annual Youth Creative Arts Contest. The MICF program, which is part of its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math (STEAM) initiatives encourages imaginative expression using the marine industry as an inspiration. This year’s theme is “The Oceans & Waterways Around Us” and entries must be submitted by Monday April 24, 2017. Winners will receive a scholarship to either the Museum of Discovery & Science Ocean Explorers Summer Camp; Gulfstream Sailing Club Learn to Sail Summer Camp; or International Game Fish Association Learn to Fish Summer Camp. Based on the number of entries, there will be 15 – 25 scholarships available this year. MICF Executive Director Gordon Connell said, “In keeping with the goals established by our Board of Directors we are excited to once again offer this unique opportunity for our youth to learn about the marine industry and the maritime world around us as they express their creativity.” He added, We are also thrilled to be able to grow the program to offer more scholarships in 2017.” MICF partners with other maritime organizations in support of the Marine Industry Cares Foundation Youth Creative Arts Contest. David Reed, MICF Chairman said “We appreciate the support our partners provide to make this possible. Our objectives are to create positive experiences for these kids, teach them about the opportunities in the marine industry and help their parents by giving them peace of mind to know that they are spending part of their summer productively!”
